Ilha do Mel a recluse island in the Atlantic ocean

Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) is a paradise without cars, roads and crowds. It is 2.5 miles from the coast and has 2.585 hectares. The island lacks in development. The roads are sand paths – with low illumination at night. It doesn’t have banks, pharmacies or medical care. This is part of the isolation and the preservation of the island.

The only way to reach the island is by boat, and takes 30 minutes or 2 hours depending witch area you are  going to. The fatter, northern half of the island is an ecological preserve, closed to any island exploration. The hillier southern portion is the locale of three small villages, two very close from each others Nova Brasilia and Praia do Farol. Encantadas is located at the far southern past of the island.

The ocean water has green and blue color, the send is very thin and white. Ilha do Mel is part of Atlantic rain forest.

During the year Ilha do Mel is a territory surfers, campers, birders and other escapists in search of simplicity and serenity. The summer time it attracts many tourists from all over the world.

I when at Ilha do Mel with my friends Carolina Bertuol and Patrick Helmold. We camping for three days on October of 2008. Helmold is a surfer, so at mornings we enjoyed the beach and evenings we hiked around the island, specially in the coast. Same places were a little danger, but we were tough on hiking.

The continent city noise don’t reach the island. At night it is possible to listen the sound of the ocean and animals. Mornings has has sounds of the birds. When I was there I felt inside the nature. It was my first time so recluse from the city.

I high recommend Ilha do Mel to anyone who enjoy being close to the nature loves quiet and serenity places.
